SigmArt is delighted to present the Concert "Canciones y Bailes" in partnership with The Reno Pops Orchestra from the Nightingale Concert Hall in Reno, Nevada (USA) on the 3rd of May 2025 at 19.00 PDT (BST -8H) exclusive Live streaming on SigmArt.
In this concert, the Reno Pops Orchestra will join forces with the 24-member University of Nevada, Reno Harp Ensemble under the baton of Conductor and Artistic Director, Jane Brown, to celebrate the romance-filled songs and exciting dances of Latin America.
This exhilarating and energetic program will feature a premier of music for harps and orchestra written by internationally renowned Paraguayan harpist and composer, Alfredo Rolando Ortiz, as well as classic Latin American orchestral pieces such as "Danzon No. 2" by Arturo Marquez and other Latin favorites by Piazzolla, Ginestera, and Vasquez. The Reno Pops will also delight audiences with their special selection of songs from Bizet's "Carmen Suites, Numbers 1 and 2." For a special treat, Harp Plus Director and UNR Harp Instructor, Marina Roznitovsky-Oster will make a special solo appearance on her Paraguayan harp in honor of her colleague, Mr. Alfredo Ortiz. Roznitovsky-Oster is the UNR Harp Instructor, director of the UNR Harp Ensemble, the creator of Reno's annual "Harps Plus" celebration, and is a highly esteemed international soloist who has performed and competed for many years in Israel, Russia, and the United States.
Conductor and Artistic Director for the Reno Pops Orchestra is international conductor and educator, Dr. Jane K. Brown. A native of the arts-loving mountain communities of Northern California, Dr. Brown has always had a passion for sharing the finest in music with her audiences, orchestra musicians, and students of all ages. She earned her Bachelor of Music, magna cum laude, in music curriculum and instruction from Brigham Young University; and a Master of Arts in Music with honors in woodwind performance and conducting from California State University, Chico.
After establishing a strong foundation as both a performing professional orchestral bassoonist and music educator, Dr. Brown embarked on her career conducting symphonic music in the Spring of 2001. She has studied with some of the world’s finest conducting instructors in Europe, Russia, and the United States, including Alexander Polyanichko, Markand Thakar, Jonathan Brett, Guerassim Voronkov, Diane Wittry, and many others. She has guest conducted orchestras in Kazakhstan, in many of the provincial capitals of the Russian Federation, and in several cities in Eastern Europe. Most recently, Jane completed her Doctor of Musical Arts in Orchestral Conducting from University of Nevada, Las Vegas in May of 2022.
In addition to conducting the Reno Pops Orchestra since 2004, Dr. Brown has served as Artistic Director of the Northern Nevada String Serenade, the Ruby Mountain Symphony, and as Conductor of the Reno Philharmonic Youth Symphony Orchestra. She is also in high demand as an educator, clinician, and adjudicator of educational and community ensembles throughout the Western United States.
