American singer, songwriter and guitarist, Raul Midón was born March 14, 1966, in Embudo, New Mexico (United States). He was blinded by an accident in the hospital as a baby. Raul discovered drums with his father, then studied music, learned guitar, and joined the University of Miami.
He began his career as a backing vocalist, and began a solo career when he moved to New York. He works in particular with Herbie Hancock or Claudio Roditi. He then recorded his first album on the Arif Mardin label (producer of Norah Jones). The album met with critical acclaim and won the Grammy Awards. Raul Midón is working again with Mardin on his second album, “State of Mind”, which confirms the singer's talent: Note, the title “Expressions of Love” and “Sittin 'In The Middle”. His third album "A World Within A World" was released in 2007.
Raul Midón is an artist with multiple cultures, mixing Soul, Funk, Jazz with the sounds of Latin music. He is the kind of artist whose music stays with you long after his set finishes. His playing style has an urgent flamenco flair, an ingredient stemming from his descent (his father was an Argentine folkloric dancer).
