SigmArt is delighted to present the Concert of National Chamber Ensemble KYIV SOLOISTS performing Mendelssohn & Dvořák from the National Philharmonic of Ukraine in Kiev on 25th of June 2025 at 19.00 EEST (17.00 BST), available On Demand on SigmArt.
The National Chamber Ensemble “Kyiv Soloists”, under the baton of Maestro Mykola Diadiura, will present the project “Mendelssohn and Dvořák.”
The soloists are the acclaimed Kateryna Diadiura (Piano) and Dmytro Tkachenko (Violin).
The programme brings together two masterpieces of the classical repertoire: Felix Mendelssohn’s Double Concerto in D minor for Violin, Piano and Strings, and Antonín Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings in E major. The emotional depth and refinement of these works promise to transport the audience into a world of Romanticism and elegance, enchanting with their lyricism and exaltation. The concert is set to be a genuine celebration for true connoisseurs.
Mendelssohn’s Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Orchestra is an exceptional work, one of the most brilliant examples of the composer’s precocious genius. Composed in 1823, when Mendelssohn was a mere 14 years old, the piece remained largely unknown for many years, only gaining prominence in the 20th century, where it astonished listeners with its maturity, depth, and the dazzling musical imagination of the young prodigy. The Double Concerto already reveals the remarkable creativity, technical assurance, and emotional intensity that would become hallmarks of Mendelssohn’s oeuvre.
The work showcases the virtuosity of both soloists—violinist and pianist—set against the subtle, chamber-like interplay of the string orchestra. The opening movement (Allegro) brims with youthful energy and drama; the second movement (Adagio) is imbued with sincerity and tender lyricism; while the finale (Allegro molto) sparkles with dazzling technique and joyful exuberance. This concerto is a true gem of the chamber-orchestral repertoire, offering listeners a unique glimpse of Mendelssohn as both a virtuoso experimenter and a passionate exponent of youthful inspiration.
One of the most poetic and radiant works by the Czech master Antonín Dvořák is his Serenade for Strings, composed in 1875 over the course of just two weeks during a period of creative inspiration and personal tranquility. This work stands as a veritable hymn to harmony, warmth, and inner peace. The Serenade, in five movements, captivates with its transparent textures, refined melodicism, and profound national character. Here, Dvořák masterfully fuses classical formal traditions with the emotionality of the Slavic soul.
From the graceful charm of the first movement to the jubilant finale, this piece is a true celebration of the sonorities of the string orchestra. The Serenade imparts to listeners a sense of serenity, dreaminess, and quiet joy, leaving a luminous and sincere emotional impression.
