A concert given on the initiative of the Association of Friends of the Orchestra. Some of the violins played belonged to victims of the Holocaust.
The Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra (OPMC) will be conducted by its advisory conductor, Maestro Gianluigi Gelmetti, with the participation of the famous violinist Shlomo Mintz, who will perform for the first time in the Principality of Monaco with the OPMC.
This is a unique event – some of the violins that the musicians will be playing in the concert belonged to victims of the Holocaust. These violins were found almost entirely destroyed, in liberated camps and Ghettos emptied at the end of the Second World War. Each violin represents someone who has died or a life saved thanks to this instrument.
For decades, these violins have been brought back to life, one by one, by master lute maker Amnon Weinstein. After a seventy-year silence, and in an original way, some will be brought alive again in the hands of musicians of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra.
Conductor Gianluigi Gelmetti, who was profoundly moved by this project by the Association of Friends of the Orchestra, wanted to compose a work dedicated to the "Violins of Hope."
