From one continent to another, the drum is the harbinger, the bearer of messages. He brings together and trains. He knows how to speak the language of humans and that of spirits. It makes bodies dance, sometimes to the point of trance. The heartbeat of the community matches its unifying and stimulating beats. Departure for a musical journey from the Caribbean Sea to the Indian Ocean, in the company of Christine Salem, Roger Raspail, the group Gwo-Ka Tradition Export and Yvon Anzala.
Christine Salem is one of the most recognized voices of the Maloya of Reunion Island, a musician who emphasizes with striking vigour the Malagasy or Comorian roots of her culture. She also does not hesitate to mix the music of her native land with a multitude of musical textures, whether folk, blues or even rock. It offers a music that is both rooted and free, resolutely open.
Roger Raspail has been sounding the heads of his Ka drums for more than forty years with the same passion. He has made his music a perpetual journey, enriched by his encounters, and infuses Gwoka traditions into the works of his contemporaries. This great Guadeloupean percussionist has supported hundreds of artists including Cesaria Evora, Papa Wemba, Pierre Akendengué, pianist Mal Waldron, Didier Malherbe and saxophonist Chico Freeman. Auberge, alias Yvon Anzala, another great figurehead of gwoka will also be there.
