Rodion Shchedrin (1932): Symphonic diptych
Nikolaï Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908): Scheherazade op.35
It is an evening where emotion is revealed at both ends of the human chain. First with this suspended moment when Rodion Chtchedrine, this man of eighty-six, of modest stature, who, in front of a cheering audience, bowed with humility. His friend Valéry Gergiev, to whom this symphonic Dyptique was dedicated in 2008, has just completed the brilliant opening performance of the program for this inaugural evening of the Verbier Festival.
In this short symphonic movement, the Russian composer asserts his art of contemporary music with unusual strength and knowledge.
