Starting from jazz and inspired by seventies black music, Soul Square's compositions ooze a tenacious groove where musicality remains the watchword, as we can see on their trilogy of EP Millésimes launched in 2013, each time featuring spotlight a new DJ.
Soul Square (first called Drum Brothers) was born in 2005, when 3 french hip-hop beatmakers (Arshitect, Guan Jay & PermOne) influenced with the same musical roots (mainly jazz, soul, funk…) decided to work together.
On the same year, they released their first remix album, The Fresh Touch, available for free on the web. Some months later, they launched themselves into a more ambitious project: making their own album, featuring worldwide guests. The 3 producers worked with musicians and emcees from Sweden, Canada, England, USA and France. A few names: the French soul singer Dajla, Elodie Rama, the mc Melodiq from Pittsburgh, Hus (Tha Connection), Voice, Justis, Blezz or the djs Greem (Hocus Pocus), Pfel & Atom (Beat Torrent), from the 5 times world champion dj crew C2C. Following this collaboration, Atom became the 4th member, mainly as a dj and sound engineer.
