We knew that Cohen's concert was going to be a great moment when members of the INSO-Lviv Orchestra started performing on stage. After an opening track alone, Cohen came to the center of the stage and picked up his bass. He has something more: a showman instinct, a natural diva. Before he even played a note, he responded to the orchestra when it started, eyes closed, grimacing, swaying with the music.
Avishai Cohen is an Israeli jazz bassist, double bass player, composer and arranger who gained fame when he became a member of Chick Corea's band Origin. He has also performed with such stars as Daniel Perez, Bobby McFerrin, Jeff 'Tain' Watts, Jeff Ballard, Roy Hargrove, Herbie Hancock, Paquito D'Rivera and many others. Avishai has recorded 15 albums. Chick Corea considers him 'a genius musician', and Bass Player magazine named him one of the 100 most influential bassists of the 20th century. Moreover, Avishai is also an amazing singer.
